Easy Lentil Dahl (Vegan Friendly)

Serves 4


  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp ginger, minced
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp coriander
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp chili flakes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups red lentils
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 3 cups water or vegetable stock
  • ½ cup EasiYo Plant Based Original Alternative to Yogurt
  • 1-2 tsp black sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 Tbsp fresh coriander, chopped (optional)


Heat oil in a large pot on a medium heat. Cook onions, garlic and ginger until soft.

Add spices and salt and cook for a further 1 minute, or until fragrant.

Rinse lentils under cold water, drain and add to pan. Stir lentils to coat with spiced onion mixture. Add tomatoes and water/stock and mix well.

Leave uncovered and cook over a low heat for about 20 minutes, or until the lentils are cooked through.

Remove from the heat and add a few spoonful’s of the dahl to a bowl. Whisk in EasiYo Plant Based Alternative to Yogurt and then combine mixture to the remaining dahl until fully combined; this will ensure the Plant Based Alternative to Yogurt does not separate.

Serve with a side of poppadom and a sprinkle of black sesame seeds and coriander.



You may substitute EasiYo Plant Based Alternative to Yogurt with EasiYo Greek Style Coconut or EasiYo Greek Style Unsweetened Yogurt.
