10 Healthy Eating Tips for a Happier, Healthier You

We’re always on the lookout for simple ways to eat healthy – but it’s easy to get lost in a sea of opinions and fads that can sometimes do more harm than good. When it comes to making a start on creating healthy eating habits, we believe it’s the simple things that can have the most impact. With that in mind, we’ve put together 10 tips to serve as a guide to eating well.

1. Snack smarter.

Grainy crackers with hummus, a cup of low fat EasiYo yogurt or a handful of nuts are nutritious alternatives to less healthy snack.

2. Fill up on protein.

Protein is not only a good source of energy, but it also supports the body with growth and repair. EasiYo yogurt contains both protein and calcium, essential for the maintenance of healthy bones.

3. Satisfy your sweet tooth.

There's no need to feel guilty about craving a treat from time to time. Instead, make a commitment to reframing the way you think about 'sweet'. Look for naturally sweet options like fruit, nuts and dark chocolate, and try to choose lower sugar options when you can, like our delicious Sweet Enough range.

4. Switch it up.

Changing the way you eat doesn't mean abandoning all your favourite meals. Try grilling or baking instead of frying, or swap out the white bread for a wholegrain option. Healthy eating can be as simple as switching it up!

5. Drink lots of water.

An average person needs 6 - 8 cups of liquid a day – sometimes our hunger is really just thirst in disguise. When you’re craving a sugary drink, try a large glass of water instead. You might be surprised to find it hits the spot.

6. Consider your portion size.

Many of us continue eating long after we’re full. Expert tip: the size of your plate or bowl can make a difference. Choose a slightly smaller plate and load it up. Chances are, you won’t even notice the difference.

7. Take it slow.

Wolfing food down doesn’t give your body a change to send you those essential “I’m full!” signals. Try to eat slowly and mindfully. The slower you eat, the better your body can digest and absorb the nutrients in your meal. You might find yourself appreciating your meal a little more, too!

8. Plan ahead.

Planning is a great way to nurture healthy eating habits. When you’re caught without snacks or meals prepared, it’s all too easy to substitute with takeaways. Think a few days ahead and keep healthy foods on hand. A freshly made tub of EasiYo in the fridge works wonders!

9. Phone a friend.

If you’re making a start on changing your eating habits, see if a friend or family member wants to get involved as well. You’ll both benefit from the support and encouragement, and being in it together is bound to make the journey more fun.

10. Have fun!

Most of all, remember that eating well should be enjoyable, not a chore. Focus on nourishing your body with foods you really love. Healthy doesn’t mean flavourless or boring. For healthy eating to be sustainable, it needs to be fulfilling, simple and most of all – delicious!
